I peered outside the window of the rundown house, I could see several of my pursuers searching desperately for me. I moved quickly and locked the door, making a quick escape through the back window. I reached a cart and began to push it towards the locked gate in hopes to use it to climb over the wall. Suddenly, she appeared, the mysterious tall woman who had been stalking me in the shadows ever since I arrived. She let out a shrill scream and the chase began. As I sprinted away I could hear her catching up to me. After pulling off some slides, rolls and parkour jumps I managed to find a barrel to hide in. As I sat in the barrel my heart racing, I wondered if I’d be able to escape her evil clutches. Just as I thought the coast was clear, I peered out from the barrel hopping that I could see a route to plan my escape. I was quickly astonished to see the woman standing a few feet from me, staring me in the eyes. I began to try to flee but it was in vain, she reached into the barrel and ripped me out. I lay motionless on the ground as she swung her scythe and brutally killed me.

(Well this is rather unfortunate)
This is Outlast 2, the long-awaited sequel to the original game. It’s a fast-paced horror game that keeps you constantly on your heels as you are always in danger of being killed by crazy people. The story takes place in rural Arizona where you and your wife who are a camera man and reporter respectively, are looking to cover a story of a hidden religious society that resides in the wilderness. After filming an intro to your documentary in a helicopter it suddenly begins to lose control and you end up crashing and almost dying. As you recover from the crash you quickly realize your wife is gone and the pilot has been brutally murdered by someone, or something. The only thing to do was follow a trial into a dense forest, it wasn't like my untimely death was something that I'd find there or anything.

(Thank goodness for my trusty night vision camcorder)
After making my way deeper into the forest, I came upon several buildings all of which seem rundown and abandoned. In a desperate search to find your wife you push further into the strange community of crazy individuals. Not far into the area I encountered the woman I brought up earlier. She wears a cloak covering her head, carries a massive scythe, and mutters religious rhetoric constantly as she moves around looking for you. After escaping her for the first of many times, I ended up having to use similar tactics where I would run duck and hide to avoid the countless mentally insane lackeys populating the strange community.

(I wonder what's in there...)
I eventually found myself at the entrance to a large building and I could hear my wife screaming from inside. I snuck in and made my way up to the top floor. Some weird ceremony of sorts was occurring but I couldn’t get into the main hall. I tried desperately to break in and eventually was discovered by a horde of crazy people. I rushed through the building slamming doors behind me and blocking them with objects to slow my pursuers. After this went on for a while I reached a dead end. It was either turn back or jump out of a third story window. I paused momentarily and as they began to break in I turned and took a leap of faith, hoping that I would survive.

(That's my wife)
I crashed into the ground below, barely able to move. To my surprise my character’s wife had also escaped. We grabbed hold of one another and darted down the path ahead us, a mob of people could be heard coming our way. Suddenly, my character’s wife began to scream in pain. I had heard in the building and from the friendly guy who took me in that they thought there was a demon child in her. This led me to believe she was pregnant, but when my character brought it up she ignored it and begged for us to keep going. We made it further down the path, but the shouts of the mob grew louder as they got closer and closer. I knew that there was no way we could escape.

(These people are messed up)
As we pressed on something in front of us began to move. We stopped in our tracks as several people jumped us. They held us down and tried to take us away. Out of nowhere strange people wearing rags and animal skulls killed the crazy people and took us both captive. Yet again another crazy woman led this group but she was nothing like the giant woman. They began to drag my character’s wife away. As my character struggled and tried to reach out to her he was immediately knocked unconscious by one of the skull people. When I awoke, I was all alone and my journey continued, little did I know things were only going to get worse from there.

(One of the many intense chase instances)
I pushed forward and discovered a friendly face after a few interactions with the locals. The man I met was from the same place but agreed to give me shelter and protection so I could rest. His daughter managed to flee the place which is what led my character and his wife to come and search for the truth of what was going on. After hiding in the man’s basement and getting a few hours of rest I was awoken by the sound of a fight, I peered through the cracks in the floor and it was nonother than the giant crazy woman. She tried to get him to give up my location, but to no avail. She then took it upon herself to kill him. I stood and watched in horror, unable to prevent his death. I had already lost so many people and I wondered if I'd ever be able to save my character's wife.

(If only he could've been saved)
I’ll leave my journey in Outlast 2 end there, I highly recommend playing it if you were a fan of the first game. I don’t want to give away anymore of the story or the crazy events that occurred in my playthrough. However, I will say that I haven’t experienced a horror game as intense as Outlast 2 in quite some time. For any horror fanatic, or adrenaline junkie this game is a must play and you’ll likely find yourself unable to stop playing just like I did.
