Welcome To Never Beating This Game

I frantically scanned the page in hopes of a lead that got me closer to my goal. I clicked images and looked along the sides of the page. Alas, there was nothing there. Just as I was about to go to the next website I heard a noise, I turned in horror as I saw a masked figure standing before me. I had failed, all my hard work was in vain. I had been kidnapped by some strange Russian criminal who had tracked me through my activity on the Dark Web. This experience of mine and many similar ones to it are what you can expect from, Welcome To The Game. The only goal of this game is to get your way into a Red Room online. A Red Room is essentially a website where you can watch and participate in murder. Now, this may not sound incredibly difficult but this game is no cake walk, it’s perhaps one of the most tedious and difficult games I have ever played.

(The part of the internet you should never go to)

At first I found this game unbearable to play. I constantly either died or got hacked without knowing the best ways to prevent them from happening. In Welcome To The Game there is also a hacking element. Essentially, it’s another hoop you have to jump through to get more codes that add up to the URL for The Red Room. Getting hacked happens frequently and if you fail at preventing the hack you can lose days. This is pretty relevant when you only have 30 days to complete your goal, trust me, this isn’t much time in terms of the game.

(Sweet, can't I just not try to find The Red Room?)

After spending, a few hours discovering the ins and outs of the game, I finally started to make progress. I began to find chunks of the URL required to access The Red Room. Unfortunately for me, the further you progress, the more challenging the game becomes. I ended up getting to the point where I was constantly on edge. I was so paranoid that I developed a system to micromanage my web surfing and my analysis of what was going on around me.

(The image showing you're being hacked, gotta love it)

I got to the point where I was so immersed into the game that I felt like I was almost there. The slightest sound would cause me to panic. Every once in a while, my cautiousness would pay off. After switching off the light in my character's room I would peer out the window and see the masked Russian guy who was constantly looking for me pass by my window.

(I always thought that would be a good idea)

Sadly, the Russian kidnapper wasn’t the only threat to my mission and my life. There was also some serial killer called “The Breather” who was in my neighborhood. For whatever reason, he can only go through the front door of houses. Now, the only well to tell if he was coming was if he called you. What better way to prepare for an impending death than for the person trying to kill you to call and let you know. “Hey, yeah so, I’m at the door. I’ll be in there soon to kill you”. Of course, “The Breather” isn’t as blunt as that, he is too edgy and cool for that sort of thing. He will call and just breath into the fun, or if you’re lucky he’ll use some strange metaphor to symbolize that he is coming to kill you.

(That's the Breather's van, but where is he?)

With all the annoying things to deal with there is also the most important part of the game you need to worry about, actually finding the URL chunks. If you manage to beat this game and get the entire URL, you earned it. The producers of Welcome To The Game do not make this an easy task to accomplish.

(If he can't turn the knob he can't get in!)

Probably one of the most fun parts of the game for me was getting calls from “The Breather”. At first I had no idea how to handle getting his creepy calls, I would just run to the door and look out hoping not to see him. He kept trying to slide into my DM’s so much that I would answer the phone, say some funny remark to him and hang up on him while he was in the middle of a sentence. This was a great way for to me to relieve my stress of trying my best to beat the game. It got to the point where I even enjoyed receiving his calls even though it meant he was likely about to come into my house and kill me.

(Some websites have puzzles you need to solve that give you URL's that get you further into The Deep Web)

Now, I have yet to beat Welcome to The Game but I hope to at some point soon. After putting in over 12 hours into it the most pieces of the URL I have acquired is 6 out of 10. My plan is to get through the game at some point and have the satisfaction of beating it, then I’ll probably never play it again since it’s so stressful. If you are at all interested in horror games that give you a ton to do, or you like a good challenge in a game, I highly recommend checking Welcome To The Game out. I can guarantee that even though it’s repetitive and unbearably hard to complete it is astonishingly addictive. You will probably find it difficult to pry yourself away from your computer until you get to The Red Room.
