Telltale Batman What To Do

When Batman: The Telltale Series begins, it opens to a heist where several goons are trying to break into a vault. Since this is Gotham Batman is there and quickly makes short work of the criminals, assuming you make the QuickTime moves successfully. After making your way into the vault Batman soon finds that it wasn’t empty. Catwoman managed to get there before the guys that were just beaten up. I tried my best to convince her we were on the same side but nothing seemed to work. I ended up in an epic fight that resulted in Catwoman almost falling to her death. After pulling her to safety she managed to escape leaving me with no answers as to why she was there.

(Probably should've just dropped her)

Fast forward to that same evening there’s a party for Harvey Dent’s campaign at Wayne Manor. There is also trouble brewing as a shady character named Carmine Falcone seeks to gain power by supporting Dent. I was then prompted with my first major choice, essentially to be a complete jerk to Falcone or to accept him despite his criminal ties. I decided that Batman would likely want to beat him up so I opted out of shaking his hand and being a gracious host. Falcone wasn’t exactly thrilled about this and warned me that, “I would get what’s coming to me”. I took this threat lightly, however he mentioned how Bruce’s parents understood how things worked, this comment would come back to haunt Bruce later in the story.

(Falcone thinks he can tell Bruce Wayne what to do)

One thing that I found absolutely hilarious about Batman: The Telltale Series was the constant references to Harvey becoming to face. Some of these you can actually control through dialogue options. The first of these can be choosing Dent’s slogan for his campaign and having it be something along the lines of, “A New Face for Gotham”. The game basically sets it up for the conclusion that everyone knows will occur. This being that Harvey Dent will eventually become Two Face at some point. The barrage face references from Harvey and Bruce foreshadowing his fate were savage. Telltale didn't hold back at all when it came to what happens to Dent and the entirety of Gotham because of it.

(#Feelings)

As I exited Episode 1 of 5 Bruce Wayne was in dire straits. His family had been connected to the mob. Bruce was torn and didn’t know what to do with this newly found information. I continued in Episode 2 doing what I could to help him preserve his moral compass that he constantly wanted to break. Batman had a new goal, to uncover who was trying to ruin the Wayne reputation. He decided that the best place to start was with Falcone. It made sense to me that he would try to humiliate Bruce because of how I treated him at the party. However, if he was responsible, he took things way too far if he was behind that.

(Bruce can't cope with the pain)

I ended up meeting Catwoman and both her (Seline Kyle) and Bruce realize who the other is, forfeiting the safety of their identities. She quickly tells Bruce he has a hard drive that she needs from the night of their fight. After discovering what was on it he promptly refuses to give it to her but I decide to at least help her out of her predicament in my dialogue choices. It turned out that Penguin, who was Bruce’s childhood friend was the one who hired Catwoman to get the info and set up Falcone to fall because of it. After arresting Falcone and leaving the drive with data on Falcone’s criminal activity, Bruce Wayne decides to pay him a visit and uncover the dark secrets of his past.

(Harvey knows Catwoman?)

I strolled into the police station, ready to get the answers I was looking for. Not five minutes into my discussion with Falcone, a drugged-out cop shoots him down right in front of me. Things were getting out of control quickly and after further inspection of the police officer, it appeared she had been drugged. The drug linked back to Penguin and after meeting up with him as Batman it turned out he was responsible for the assassination. I could barely keep up with all that was going on in Gotham, there seemed to be no answers for Bruce Wayne, only more people to fight.

(Batman has a bit of a dark side in this game)

The only positive thing going on for Bruce Wayne was the discovery of a formidable ally, Catwoman. I still wasn’t certain if I could trust her, but it seemed that for the time being we both wanted the same thing, to eliminate Penguin. After taking part in an epic bar fight with her against Penguin’s thugs I gained her trust and we both split up and headed to the location of Harvey’s debate. Bruce received information from one of the goon’s cellphones that Penguin and co. were going to attack the theater where the debate was happening.

Bruce Wayne, kicking ass and taking names)

On my way, there I got a phone call from Harvey. Because of the ties with Bruce’s family and the mob he couldn’t have Bruce as a public supporter anymore. This didn't stop him from asking for financial backing to stay the same. The reason Bruce had called as to save Harvey and get him to leave. After avoiding that topic, he continued to explain why they were friends and he needed help. I couldn’t believe this guy. But, being the billionaire good Samaritan that Bruce is I promised I would continue to back him financially.

(Oh yes she will remember that)

After arriving at the theater, it quickly became apparent that something was amiss. As Catwoman and I entered the theatre, Penguin arrived and began taking hostages and killing civilians. After plotting out ways to get passed guards I managed to get into the hall where the debate was going on. Both the current mayor and Harvey had been drugged by the same chemical used on the police officer earlier. As I set up my attack on Penguin and the others on stage, a video came on showing Bruce’s father using the same drug on Penguin’s mother to get her land and make her go insane. The Wayne family mysteries seemed to get darker and darker. After taking my sweet time I lunged at the enemies below and a fight ensued. After doing the best I could I was hit with the huge Telltale choice that comes at the end of each chapter. I had to save either Catwoman, or Harvey Dent.

(Nice gun Penguin, fancy)

The reason I chose to save Catwoman was for one reason and one reason only/ Harvey was about to be smashed in the face by a hot light whereas Catwoman was about to be shot by 3 bad guys. Obviously Catwoman could probably get away but I knew instantly that this light would transform Harvey Dent into Two Face. All the foreshadowing that I had laughed at had finally arrived. I figured that he would eventually become Two Face anyway, there was no avoiding it I could only extend his time as Harvey Dent. I made the hard choice of leaving Harvey to his fate and saving Catwoman, further strengthening our super hero alliance. After hearing the screams of Harvey as his face melted, I chased off Penguin. Thus, my journey in the black suit ended and Episode 2 came to a close.

(Wow that looks painful, I'm sorry but this was inevitable)

Gotham was in a state of turmoil. With evil masterminds appearing left and right there is only one hero who can make a difference. His name, is Batman. Batman: The Telltale Series puts you into an incredibly chaotic time in the city of Gotham. With Harvey Dent running for mayor, Penguin returning to Gotham, the arrival of Catwoman and much more Bruce Wayne/ Batman has his work cut out for him. Telltale allows you as the player to decide the fate of Gotham and the people in it. Though they have never had the most diverse paths to take in their games. However, the choices you make still have an impact on how your story unfolds.

(Catwoman ended up at Wayne Manor, where is this relationship headed?)

I usually am not the biggest fan of Telltale Games since your choices are binary and have little impact on the story in general. However, I was pleasantly surprised with what I’ve played so far and I’m more than likely going to finish all the episodes. After putting several hours into this game I feel like these extremely story based games are getting better and better. In the future I will be checking out more of these types of games and writing about my experience playing them.
