3 Days Straight of HuniePop

I was so close to my goal and I was frantic to win. I only needed 10 more points to get through the level. As I scanned the board in search of a way to make matches, there it was. I let forth a victory cry as I moved the piece over it’s matching counterparts. Now I was able to move onto the next date! The incredible puzzle game that makes up the majority of the dating sim, HuniePop is perhaps one of the most addicting mini-games I have ever played. This part of the game is the basis of advancement as you make date multiple anime girls until you “get lucky” on the fifth and final date with each of them. Now I will say that this game is certainly not for everyone and is quite frankly a bit ridiculous. However, HuniePop has the ability to make you do anything in your power to complete the incredibly enticing puzzle portions. Not to mention you must complete them to progress further through HuniePop.

(I met a love fairy, it must be my lucky day!)
I started off the game like any dating sim would. I played the classic character who just couldn’t seem to do well with the ladies. It seemed all hope was lost for our protagonist. However, I ended meeting mysterious woman at a bar she soon reveals herself to be non other than, A LOVE FAIRY!! This was something that I was not expecting and to be honest it set my hopes fairly high for my future in HuniePop. After all, I now had my own personal helper to make my character into a master of seduction. Little did I know being a lady killer required an immense amount of patience, dedication, and the ability to complete puzzle games.

(It's like Bejeweled, but better!)
To put the tile game portion into context, it’s extremely similar to Bejeweled. You take shapes that all have different benefits in terms of what kind the girl you are dating likes more or even hates. There are also pieces that give you bonuses and higher multipliers as you attempt to hit your number goal in “x” turns. As you progress through the days the puzzles get harder and harder, requiring more effort and even skill development. It’s a pretty intricate and in depth system that leaves you craving more combos and higher amounts of points with every move you make.

(SO many choices!)
After learning the basics of the game I was ready to go on my first date. I ended up meeting a girl named Lola. She was a flight attendant who wasn’t in town very often. I was ready to start and to start matching up some tokens. Unfortunately for me I had only learned the basics thus far. After trying my best to get enough points by frantically matching tiles I had succeeded in my my first attempt. I was determined to advance further and after a while I started to get the hang of it.

(I did it, WOO!)
It was fairly amusing that my character spent the entirety of every single day trying to pick up women. I also questioned how he could afford to live and somehow take all of the anime girls on dates as well. It turns out that you receive money from going on dates, I found this to be pretty disturbing but I let it slide. Dating sims aren't ever supposed to be realistic I thought, as I rapidly cleared my way through the tile puzzle dates and fed my completion addiction. After this point, which was probably a couple of hours I was completely hooked. As I was sucked into the abyss I couldn’t help but think that HuniePop was better than Bejeweled.

(Am I interrupting something?)
Fast forwarding several days into the future I discovered I had reached 100% completion. I couldn’t understand how this was possible. In the span of those days I could hardly ever stop playing. Making my way through dates and finding the best ways to make combos (The secret is in the drink) I had managed decimated the game. As I admired my accomplishment I was baffled by how fast it went by. Although the characters and the interactions that you have with them are lacking, it was still an absolute blast to play.

(So many hours gone)
As I exited out of the game window I felt the weight of what I had just done hit me. I had somehow spent 3 days doing almost nothing but playing HuniePop. I couldn’t comprehend how this had happened. Nonetheless I had completed the game to it’s entirety. If you have any interest in being productive in the next few days, you should probably avoid loading up HuniePop for a bit. When you do have some time make sure to give it a chance, I can honestly say that it’s perhaps one of the most entertaining games I’ve played in awhile. Just make sure when you do play you’re over the age of 18 and prepared for some cringe worthy experiences.
