Gang Beasts Brawl

Sitting down with 3 of my friends, controllers in hand, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect out of the new early access game, Gang Beasts. I knew that it would be some sort of a fighting game, however, the crazy events that were about to unfold were impossible to predict. As we launched the game I had no idea how much fun and epic the battles we would have would be. It would end up being a game that caused chaos, yelling, and some pretty bad glitches that would not soon be forgotten.

(Someone being taken out)

We soon discovered that the main goal of the game was to cause your opponent to either be killed by interactive objects, or fall to their death into water or from incredibly high places. This of course meant that there would be a free for all that became a giant fist fight/wrestling match until only one of us was left. There were several rounds and eventually someone would either be crowned the victor, or there would be a draw between two people.

(Holding on for dear life)

One of the funniest parts of this game, besides how ridiculous the maps are is the costumes you can choose from. Your character can wear anything from a bear costume, to a business suit as you square off on the top of a blimp. Something as simple as the unrealisticness of the maps as well as the skins for the player characters had a large impact on the hysterics that took place while we played. At one point we ended up running around stealing the hat off one of our characters and playing a game of keep away with it. The game is just in it’s beginning stages so I’m looking forward to the costumes and the maps that will certainly be added in the future.

(There can be only one)

Regarding the glitches in the game, it's something that myself and all of my friends expected would happen since Gang Beasts is an early-access game. The kind of glitches that would happen were still completely unexpected and absolutely hysterical. On rare occasions when one of us was hit by someone else something truly mind blowing would happen. Our player would die instantly, but that wasn’t it. When the impact occurred we would be sent flying and the ligaments of our players would stretch to unfathomable lengths as we bounced off the walls or into oblivion. Of course, if our Mr. Fantastic like stretchy corpse hit anyone else it would take the other person with them to the grave sending everyone into a fit of rage. This is certainly something that can be overlooked especially since it doesn’t happen that often, but I do hope that they patch the glitch at some point soon to make the game work properly.

(Running for my life)

This game is actually probably one of the funniest I’ve ever played. The whole point of it even makes me crack up. It reminds me of the party games they had in the early 2000’s with a bunch of pointless minigames in them. Also equally pointless, but equally as entertaining. These kind of game shave always been great to play in groups and the more people you have it gets exponentially crazier and better.

(The price of avoiding death)

We spent hours flinging each other off of ledges and sometimes taking people eachother with us to our deaths unintentionally. The simplicity of the game made it so it was incredibly enjoyable, especially to us as new players. The mechanics, although very unorthodox, were pretty easy to get used to. We were quickly immersed into the game as we rapidly began to figure out the best ways to defeat one another. It wasn’t too long before we were able to expertly take each other down and whoever remained, if there was anyone could emerge victorious.

(A champion emerges)

We ended up playing late into the night on all of the maps, unable to put ours controllers down. I was unexpectedly absorbed into the game, when I started playing I didn’t expect it to be so addicting. We ended up spending hours playing Gang Beasts, and we are still playing it. If you like party style games, or fighting games, it’s worth playing because it’s incredible. When you play each tie it always becomes an epic brawl that will send you and your friends into fits of laughter.
